A big welcome back to all our children and staff for the last, but also very short, term of the year. Again we have a number of new children starting so a warm welcome to them and their whanau. We had our Powhiri this morning to welcome them all to our learning community.
This term we have another new entrant class starting, with teacher Miss Watson in Room 6. Miss Watson came to us part way through last term assisting in our junior classes. Room 6 used to house a number of teacher aides who take groups of students for extra literacy support, but as we grow we are also running out of space. These groups have now been squeezed into other rooms around the school. Our roll growth indicates to us how good a school we are, with our community choosing to enrol their children here. Rest assured the Ministry of Education is aware of this and we are in discussions with them regarding our growth.
Growth also brings other problems. One of these is the use of our carparks to drop off and pick up children. Our carparks are already full with staff cars, so please do not come in to drop your child off there in the morning or to pick them up in the afternoon. Our children are not allowed in the carpark areas (off Cosgrave Road or Yang Place). As we grow there are more families and therefore more cars around the school, and we see many parents with a strong desire to get as close to the gates as possible. Please be considerate to others and mindful of the safety of ALL our children. Please do not stop or park on the broken yellow lines. They are there so that our road patrollers get clear vision so they can assist our children safely across the pedestrian crossing.
Be at School Learning Week
When children are not at school they miss opportunities to learn. There are a number of children that have missed a lot of these opportunities by being away for reasons other than sickness. We want our children to learn and so we want them to come to school every day. All our staff would like the best for your children and most importantly for them to do well at school. We are having a little competition in Week 3 (Monday 7 to Friday 11 November) where we are looking for the class that has the greatest improvement in attendance and therefore learning opportunities. Will it be your child’s class!
Book Fair
There will be a Scholastics Book Fair in the school library on Thursday 3 to Tuesday 8 November during school hours. Please feel free to come in to look at and purchase from the great selection of books. In supporting this Book Fair you are also supporting the school, as we receive a proportion of the sales in free books for our library. Eftpos will be available.
Hats
Please ensure your child has a bottle green wide brimmed hat as of next week (Monday 31 October). These are available at the school office for $12. Hats are compulsory for outside to protect our children from the long-term effects of the sun. Children without hats will have to
stay in specified shade areas during morning and lunch breaks.
